The Vital Signs bar

The green Vital Signs bar at the top of the screen provides the ability to view and enter vital sign information for the patient. This green bar always remains at the top of the screen with the patient information bar (Name, Age, Visit #, and Chief Complaint) so it is always visible, even as you scroll down the page.

To view vital signs

The Vital Signs bar contains Blood Pressure, Temp (and Method), Heart Rate, Respiratory Rate, Oxygen Saturation (%, Device, and Amount), Height, Weight, and BMI values. The most recent entry for each measure is displayed next to the measure description. The last time the vital sign information was entered is displayed next to the Vital Signs: last at text in the header of the Vital Signs bar.

To enter vital signs

  1. The Time field defaults to the current date and time. If necessary, modify these fields using the calendar and clock buttons to indicate the time that the vital signs were taken.

  2. For each measure, click in the blank field next to the measure and enter the appropriate value.

  3. Use the <Tab> key to proceed to the next blank field.

  4. If you enter a value in the Temp field, use the drop-down list to select the correct method used to obtain the temperature value.

  5. For the Oxygen Saturation entry, use the drop-down list in the Device and Amount fields to select the correct information, if applicable.

  6. Click Record Vitals to save the entries. If height and/or weight values were entered, the BMI is calculated and displayed in the BMI field.
