To administer scheduled orders

The Scheduled tab, located on the eMAR page, displays individual scheduled doses of medications in the order that they are due to be administered. In the instance where there are past due medications, those are displayed first. All scheduled medications, except for Continuous IV and IV orders (which appear on the Continuous IV tab), appear on this tab. Each medication shows the medication date/time, brand name, generic name, strength, dosage, ordered quantity, frequency, route, date/time last given, and status. Any special instructions are also listed directly below the medication name.

The following icons and buttons are used on the Scheduled tab to help you quickly identify important information regarding the medication before you administer it.

If present, these icons are displayed to the LEFT of a scheduled medication:

Indicates medication administration is past due

Indicates a home medication

Indicates a schedule-specific comment is present for this medication. Click the Schedule Specific Comment button to view the comment.

If present, these function buttons are displayed to the RIGHT of a scheduled medication:

Conflict Alert: This button is displayed if a conflict has been identified with this medication for the patient. Click this button to check the conflict results.

Schedule Specific Comment: Click this button to add a schedule-specific comment.

To change the display date

To change the date for the displayed medications, change the date and time in the Order Schedule Date fields to the appropriate date and time.

 To view inactive orders

This view defaults to a display of active orders for the current visit. To view inactive (historical) orders, check the show inactive orders check box located in the upper right corner of the page. For inactive orders on the Orders Tracking page, the Administer button will remain enabled for non - medication orders to allow those orders to be completed. For inactive orders on the eMAR page, the Administer button will remain enabled for Medication orders. When administering inactive orders, a message is displayed alerting the user that the order has been discharged and confirming that the user wants to continue. The discharged patient orders will be displayed with a black icon (inactive) in all the change screens.

HINT: When viewing inactive orders, you may also want to filter the list by the desired department, date, and/or sort order so viewing the desired orders is easier.

To enter a Schedule-Specific Comment

  1. Click the Schedule Specific Comment button to the right of the medication to add a schedule-specific comment for this medication. The Schedule Specific Comment window is displayed.

  2. Enter your comment in the Comment field, and click Save to save and return to the eMAR page. The symbol is displayed to the left of the medication to alert users that a comment has been entered.

To administer scheduled orders

Administering orders not only documents that an order has been carried out, but also generates the charge associated with that order. Orders are administered by checking the box to the left of each medication you are administering, and clicking the Administer Selected button at the top of the screen. See Administering Scheduled and PRN Orders for detailed instructions.

Be sure to check for interaction conflicts prior to administering a medication.
